This week I’ve invited my wife, Kim, to share a special guest post. This past Mother’s Day weekend, she delivered a message on surrendering to God and “going up” in life. Her wisdom is incredible! And she has more to share on what it looks like to focus on God through life’s challenges. If you missed her teaching, be sure to check it out here.
1 Peter 5:6-7–So humble yourselves under the mighty power of God, and at the right time he will lift you up in honor. Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you.
What is going on right now in your life? Maybe there are some obstacles and challenges you’re facing, and you think you’ll never make it from there. Or maybe things are actually going okay for you. No matter what is happening with your life today, God has even bigger things planned for your future, if you will release the control of your life to Him.
God calls all of us to do great things for Him, but we can’t do that if we hold on to our life and let it control us! He wants us to trust Him with the control of our lives. Romans 12:2 says, “Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.” God wants to reveal the amazing things he has in store for us! And once we allow God to give us a vision for our future, we have to surrender to Him anything that is holding us back from achieving that.
I know, it’s not easy surrendering the control of our lives to Him. One of the best things we can do is tap into the encouragement of others to help us along the way. God doesn’t intend for us to do life on our own! Surrounding ourselves with people who are always trying to make progress themselves will help keep us motivated to continue on the journey. Make sure you have people around you who will keep you accountable and encourage you. We’ll make progress together!
Colossians 3:2–Think about the things of heaven, not the things of earth.
If we’re focused only on what we can see around us, we’re not going to be able to experience all that God has in store for us. It’s easy to keep our eyes just on earthly things, because that’s what our natural selves want. But God wants you to soar in life! And that means focusing on what really matters, which mean focusing our mind on heavenly things. That is how we grow in Him and let the Holy Spirit guide us.
Look at how you spend your time, your money, your energy. What do they say is most important to you? If you want to experience all that He has already planned for you in this life, what needs surrendering to God to make progress?
