Ephesians 2:19-22—So now you Gentiles are no longer strangers and foreigners. You are citizens along with all of God’s holy people. You are members of God’s family. Together, we are his house, built on the foundation of the apostles and the prophets. And the cornerstone is Christ Jesus himself. We are carefully joined together in him, becoming a holy temple for the Lord. Through him you Gentiles are also being made part of this dwelling where God lives by his Spirit.
If you’re not Jewish and have believed in who Jesus is and what He has done, this passage is speaking directly to you. Gentiles are just people who aren’t Jews. God will accept everyone—whether we are Jewish or Gentile, male or female, young or old—all we have to do is place our trust in Him.
But there is so much more to life than just being accepted into God’s family and never developing into who He created us to be. God made us in His image so that we can do the good things He planned for us.
Our purpose is to be on display with the rest of God’s people so that the rest of the world can see His goodness through us. 1 Corinthians 12:6-7 says, “God works in different ways, but it is the same God who does the work in all of us. A spiritual gift is given to each of us so we can help each other.” Each of us has a role, a purpose, specifically designed by God for us to fulfill, and each of those roles is important in His plan.
Jesus is called the cornerstone, which is the stone that supports and aligns the rest of a building. The people of the Church come together to form a house, a temple, which was where God would dwell with His people.
None of us are designed to live life on our own. Your gifts complement others’ gifts, and when we work with each other, we can permeate the Earth with God’s favor, kindness, and goodness. It’s not so that we can be see or be known, but so that everyone will know who God is and what He has done for them.
A house has to have all of its bricks in place to be strong. God calls all of us to spread His name around the Earth. The Creator of the universe has accepted you into His family! Whatever He wants you to do will grow and develop you, so don’t just talk about doing it, but step out and take action with your faith.
