What does it mean when you entrust someone with a key to your home? When a person gives you their house key, it means that they have accepted and welcomed you. There is a reason they’ve given you that key, and it is so that you will have complete access to their home.
God is building a kingdom, and He calls us His children. 1 Peter 2:5 says, “And you are living stones that God is building into his spiritual temple.” And as His kids, He gives us full access to Him; these are the keys we are given, the keys to God’s kingdom.
In the Old Testament, the temple was where God would dwell among His people. 1 Corinthians 3 in the New Testament, it says that all of us, together, are God’s temple. Everyone who believes in Jesus and what He has done for us is a part of this temple.
And God’s temple isn’t exclusive. It’s not designed for just a few types of people to get in. We aren’t supposed to huddle together in our Christian circles and never do anything else. It’s great to fellowship with one another, and we should be doing that, but we have been given every tool we need to reach people and bring them into the kingdom. Our job as Christians isn’t to decide on our own who needs to hear the Good News, but to do everything we can to make sure as many people as possible learn who Jesus is and what He has done for them.
Think about what would happen if we all used our gifts and talents that we’ve been given by God to do the amazing things He has planned for us to do! We aren’t expected to reach every single person on our own; when we partner together, combining the unique gifts that we have been given, we will see great growth in the Church. When we have faith and use the keys we’ve been given by God to grow in our relationship with Him, anything is possible.
God has shown us His love and power over and over again. All it takes is a little bit of faith directed at the right object: Jesus. He has a clear plan for our lives, one of incredible purpose, but we have to trust Him to do what He said He will do. It won’t always be easy, but it will be worth it to let God take control of our lives.
