Big Ask Faith

Most of us would be lying if we said we’d never tried to bargain with God. “Hey God, if you’ll do this for me, I’ll do this.” “If you heal my family member, I’ll believe you exist.” “If you grow my finances, I’ll tithe every week.” “I’ll know you’re real if you just do this for me.”

But God isn’t some spiritual weight lifter. It’s not like He gets more powerful every time He does a miracle. God is the same God whether He does what we want Him to or not.

That can be hard for many people to accept. We want God to do what we want Him to do, but we have to understand that His purpose in performing miracles is always to advance His story and purpose throughout the world. It’s not that we don’t matter, but that we aren’t the center part of the story—He is. Every single one of us fits into God’s plan; if we didn’t, we wouldn’t be here on the Earth.

We have to examine ourselves and find out the real reasoning behind why we ask for miracles in our lives. Are our hearts right? Are we fully trusting in God and His purpose for us? Are we underestimating what God can do? These are all questions we need to answer in order to determine whether or not we’re asking for the right reasons.

Our motives behind asking God for miracles should be to continue and advance His story in the world. The purpose, the calling placed upon our lives as Christians, is to “go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you” (Matthew 28:19-20). This means that everything we do needs to be for the ultimate purpose of sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ with people who haven’t met Him yet.

It takes faith, big ask faith, to be willing to seem foolish to other people and believe that God will follow through on His promises. It takes big ask faith to ask God for things that are of eternal value rather than things that don’t matter in the grand scheme of things. And faithfulness is staying until the end because you know that God is powerful and victorious. He is the God of miracles. Allow God to write His story through you by staying faithful to Him and believe Him for bigger, eternal things.
