Armor of God

Ephesians 6:10-17—“A final word: Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil. For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places.

Therefore, put on every piece of God’s armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will still be standing firm. Stand your ground, putting on the belt of truth and the body armor of God’s righteousness. For shoes, put on the peace that comes from the Good News so that you will be fully prepared. In addition to all of these, hold up the shield of faith to stop the fiery arrows of the devil. Put on salvation as your helmet, and take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

Many of us as Christians want to put on the armor of God, but we don’t know where to start. There are a lot of pieces that make up this armor! So how do we dress ourselves each day in the belt of truth, the body armor of God’s righteousness, the shoes of peace, the shield of faith, the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit?

If you are in Christ, you can know that have been made a new creation—the old you, the one marked with sin and dirtiness, is gone! Jesus covered all of that on the cross, and makes us new when we trust in Him. And He gives it to us as a gift, not through anything we’ve done to earn or buy it. That should give us great peace, knowing that we don’t have to worry that we aren’t working hard enough to earn His favor. His righteousness is more than enough to cover us.

The Enemy’s domain is the world we temporarily live in, but because Jesus is here, we can have hope! He makes us the light of the world. Remind yourself to live what Jesus says about you so that you can reach the world with the Good News.

This is something you have to remind yourself to do every day. 2 Corinthians 10:5 says to take every thought captive to Christ, so consciously remind yourself every day that in Christ, you are totally new, a fully forgiven creation, rescued and salvaged because of the grace of God. In Christ, there is peace between you and God, who has made you a Kingdom kid. In Christ, you are more than a conqueror, called to be the light in a dark world and to do great things in His name. In Christ, you can have joy in all circumstances. Don’t let anything hold you back from choosing the hope that God offers—take ground for Christ!

  1. The sermon series HOPE IS HERE has made me more aware of daily spiritual warfare and our need to stand strong for Christ. There is tremendous power in beginning each day verbally dressing ourselves in the armor of God. I love that Pastor Clay is helping us sharpen our swords with scripture that reminds us who we are in Christ.
