He Is, So We Can Be!

Revelation shows us four things to help us run this race called life: who Jesus is, who our adversary is, who we are as the Church, and a glimpse of the amazing future that is ahead of us. In chapters 2 and 3, John pens seven letters. Although they were addressed to individual churches, John is instructed to send all the letters to all the churches.

Because each of the seven churches were missing in some way because of the enemy’s tactics, God wanted to give all his people an overarching message that would encourage them in the face of challenges. All seven letters reveal the strategies of our adversary, who tries to hold up back from finishing our race well. In each one, Jesus reveals a characteristic of himself to show the churches that he is the solution for their problem. John also encourages them that they can press on to victory over the enemy. We can take hold of that same courage and assurance today!

If you are struggling to discover your identity, take hold of the truth that Jesus gives us a solid identity in Himself. If you feel like your world is spinning out of control, know that God is in ultimate control. He holds the keys to the Kingdom, and can create significant opportunities for you if you trust in His plan. Whatever you are facing, God has established His son Jesus as the authority over all—the First and the Last! Be courageous in this life by holding firm to His Word.

I would encourage you to read through the letters to the churches, found in Revelation 2-3, and ask God to show you how you can trust Christ and conquer the tactics of the enemy. You have a real adversary who wants to knock you off your game, but you can run this race and finish well by knowing the truth and standing in it. Jesus wants us to understand who He is, so we can understand who we are in him. He unveils his love for us, his power over the enemy, his ability to open doors for our life, and so much more through the letters to the seven churches. We can be sure of this: He is, so we can be!

Be encouraged, Church! The best is yet to come!
